The breed gets it name from the region of Anatolia, Turkey. The Anatolian is a loyal, independent, and hardy dedicated working dog. They were never used as herding dogs as the name "Shepherd" implies. The Anatolians are large in size and very protective. Because of it's size it is very intimidating to predators.
